The Forum, Southend-on-Sea

The Forum in central Southend-on-Sea is a major regeneration of an area of the town centre. The impressive new building provides accommodation for public facilities including a library on the ground floor, and offce space for local government offices. It also houses facilities for the University of Essex.

The architect selected the robust Kampus Blind system for all windows on the basis of its build quality and wide span capability. In addition, the control handles can be removed from the blinds to prevent unauthorised usage. The fabric throughout was a dark charcoal colour to enhance the view through and reduce the glare.

The rooflights used the 4000 Series product which was fitted with a screen fabric to reduce the light and glare rather than block it out. These were installed in meeting, class and office spaces on the top floor, and to the main rooflight in the central core.
