The Priority School Building Programme is a UK government scheme launched in 2014 to address the capital investment needs of schools most in need of urgent repair. The £4.4 billion Priority School Building Programme is rebuilding and refurbishing school buildings in the worst condition across the country.

Copleston High School and Grove Academy were just two of several school academies that InterLace completed in the past year for Wates Group as part of the government’s Priority School Building Programme (PSBP), using the same specification for consistency, and ease of maintenance throughout. With multiple projects in the pipeline, InterLace were able to work closely with our supply chain to offer special rates on premium products, thus ensuring value for money alongside quality and product longevity.

The Department for Education’s (DfE) specification had a unique challenge of incorporating blinds into windows that shared a space with ventilation units or louvred panels. This was made particularly challenging where some rooms were required to have both blackout and glare control blinds to each window for greater flexibility. For example, in science laboratories where blackout blinds are required for carrying out experiments and glare control blinds allowed for natural light to be managed, thus reducing the use of artificial lighting in line with the DfE design guidance.

InterLace were able to test, present and supply a unique solution of fitting 2 blinds (and in some cases 4 blinds!) seamlessly to one window, without the need for fixing to the window frame, which would have negated the warranty.

Following the successful completion of one project, InterLace received this very welcome feedback:

I just wanted to say thank you for all the hard work and efforts of you and your teams over the course of the project it is very much appreciated by all at Wates. We handed the building over to the client on Friday and they were delighted with their new building. – Project Manager

This solution was used throughout all DfE schools that InterLace were a part of and we continue to supply it into 2021.
