InterLace Blinds, along with 9 other subcontractors recently assisted Morgan Sindall Construction with their very generous donation of time and funds to transform the community kitchens at the Lighthouse Women’s Centre in Central Ipswich.
Lighthouse Women’s Aid is a charitable organisation based in Suffolk providing emotional support to women, young people and children experiencing domestic abuse. They also provide a safe and supportive refuge in Ipswich and offer a range of community services and courses to support women, young people and children to rebuild their lives after domestic abuse.
From the Lighthouse’s latest newsletter:
We have been delighted by the way all the contractors in this project have got behind Lighthouse and literally made a vision happen!
When as a small charity organisation we started to look at how we were going to re-furbish the three kitchens in our refuge we soon realised what an enormous task this was going to be.
We began with consulting with all of our current residents in the refuge, as this refuge was built some 20 years ago, life changes and what you need within a certain setting can change too. We had so many suggestions about what was needed, what would be useful, colour schemes and how to make the kitchens feel more homely. After collating all of these thoughts and feelings, needs and wants thoughts then turned to, how much it would cost and how to raise the necessary money and getting builders in to do the work.
It took about 3 months from ripping out the old kitchens to completing all the new ones. This has been taking place during a pandemic and has therefore thrown in lots of unexpected challenges, but the working party managed to ensure the work continued where possible and the kitchens were finished well and truly on schedule.
“As a charity it is so heart-warming to know that a large group of people are prepared to go above and beyond for someone that they do not know, this is just what all the contractors did when they worked wonders on our kitchens.”
“We are all so impressed with the kitchens and also in the swift and diligent way they have been installed to such a high standard”.
