What is dimout? Dimout is the control or guiding of incoming light to a comfortable level to work or live in. It does not fully cut out the light.

Dimout is often required in residential environments for living areas where privacy is required, but where blackout is not wanted as the natural light coming through the blind is a desirable feature. It is also sometimes requested in commercial and educational buildings where a basic level of light control and privacy is required, but not to a precise level.

Roller blinds combined with a translucent fabric is the most common product used to create dimout. Depending on the colour, the fabrics glow with the light behind them but do not allow a view through. It is important to note that white and light coloured translucent fabrics can sometimes increase glare and may need to be avoided.

Vertical blinds and venetian blinds are sometimes preferred for dimout and privacy, as the controllable aspect of their slats and louvres allows light to be angled and reflected.

Curtains can be used very effectively for dimout, which create a softer ambience and enable special finishes and designs to increase options.
